The ASCHE is the authority entrusted with regulating the syllabus, mode of teaching and conduct of exams for various streams (Science/Commerce/Arts) in the state of Assam. The Board conducts Class 12 exams in March/April each year. It was established in 1984 by an Act (Assam Act No. XVII of 1984, called the Assam Higher Secondary Education Board. It had the "mandate to regulate, supervise and develop the system of Higher Secondary Education" in Assam.
The Board's syllabus and teaching methodology is inclined towards the CBSE pattern. Upon completion of instructions and the end of academic session. students take up the HSSLC exam.
