AP Eamcet 2011 exam Postponed to May 22 due to Kadapa by polls

AP State Council of Higher Education APSCHE postponed the Eamcet to May 22 from May 8. Due to the by polls to be held for one Assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in Kadapa district. The postponement of the exam will affect nearly 3.5 lakh students. The Election Commission announced the polling date on Wednesday and though APSCHE could have requested the EC to change the date to avoid a clash with the exams, it took a unilateral decision on Thursday to postpone the exam by two weeks.

The chief electoral officer Mr Bhanwar Lal had even assured Eamcet officials on Thursday that he would take up the issue of changing the date with the Election Commission of India, and sought a day’s time for the purpose. However, the Eamcet committee held an emergency meeting at the APSCHE office on Thursday evening and decided to postpone the examination.

The chairman of APSCHE, claimed the decision to postpone the exam was made after the Election Commission refused to change the polling date. He explained that as per the orders of the AP State Human Rights Commission, to avoid students getting caught up in traffic jams and reaching late for the exam, Eamcet is held only on Sundays. May 15, the following Sunday, was considered, but several exam centres would still be occupied by election staff then, therefore May 22 was the next available date
